Intimefunk Presents Soundsystem Sessions @ Staples Bar: July 31st, 2010
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Venue: Staples Bar on Allen St. This venue was the original home of Frotytone's first big events, the "Wanted" series, which had a great run for 15 months, and is currently home to Friction, the Queen City Cartel's monthly event. Many of us love this venue and we will be revistiting our old friend for this event with Tristan's 4x18 bassbins. Drink specials tba and we are working on adding an extra bartender to help smooth out the flow of traffic in the front room at your request.
Your Hosts: Dj Loki & VJ deliria aka Intimefunk have been around the the scene for a few years now. They have been working on their audio/visual collboration since 2006. More recently, their journey has seen Loki playing drum and bass and Deliria providing cutting edge visual entertainment at Western and Central NY's best shows. In late 2009, the duo started their own FM radio show, Intimefunk Radio: Drum & Bass... and you have to like it!, dedicated to drum and bass music on 91.3 FM in Buffalo and streaming on their website intimefunk.com. Their passion for solid drum and bass music and a visually pleasing party has them to this, the first party of an envisioned series of drum and bass events to supplement the bubbling scene here in Buffalo with a nice show every few months. For the first installment we are proud to sport an international bill.
Admission is $10 if presale and before 12am... more after, like if you intend to show up just for the headliners... We anticipate selling the show's 150 tickets out so get your ticket ahead of time. This will be an intimate setting with huge sound, big tunes, big djs, great drinks, great visuals, and a big summertime vibe so don't miss the drum and bass event of the year in Buffalo!

Artists: This night is dedicated to only the finest drum and bass tunes in the world played by international players....
A-Sides (Eastside / BassHead / Metalheadz - UK)
This man has been around Buffalo, but not in this kind of setting and he has never played dubstep here, which he will be on this night. He will be playing for 2 hours. Expect drum and bass tunes from Eastside, Metalheadz, and more and some dubstep for you dubsteppers from his dubstep label, Basshead and other labels in the scene. Look for his new album, Worldwide coming soon everywhere fine elctronic beats are sold with promos already smashing dancefloors everywhere.
A true veteran DJ, producer and engineer, A Sides has over 500 released tracks to his name making him one of the most prolific and versatile artists in drum & bass. Over the course of his extensive career, A Sides has never limited himself to a single style and has proved to be a highly capable selector whether drawing for dubstep, hip hop or old school drum & bass. With a flexible approach in the studio too, he's produced tracks for Metalheadz, Bingo, Hospital, True Playaz and Innerground to name a few, plus of course his own long-running Eastside imprint. Reaching out with a sound that has truly global appeal, A Sides has toured the world over and has already touched down across the USA, Europe and South Pacific this year. There's more due on his new label BassHead Music from the likes of Break and DJ Sneak, plus forthcoming Eastside releases from Makoto and Spirit and his sophomore LP "Worldwide" set for release in Spring 2010.
A Sides' career as a DJ has taken him worldwide, playing in over 200 cities in over 40 different countries. In 2009, he's been taking part in the 15 years of Metalheadz tour as well as linking up with Nathan Haines to perform as Sci-Clone live. A Sides has also working on his second album "Worldwide," which promises to be something special featuring new material and collaborations with Break, Deeizm, KemoMC and MC Fats and is due for release in Spring 2010. There's also a "Tokiado" remix by Spirit to look forward to on Eastside, plus the Total Science remix of"What U Don’t Know" making this another busy year for the drum & bass veteran and frequent flyer.
Always moving forward and shaping new styles, in 2008 he established BassHead Music together with Juan BassHead aka DJ Burn to showcase the finest in dubstep and bass heavy beats. After a successful debut (feat. 12th Planet and Skream) there are releases lined up from Otto Von Schirach, Noah D feat. Einstein, Total Science and Datsik plus remixes being supplied by high profile artists such as Jakes, Break, DJ Sneak and Bassnectar. With a diverse music policy, encompassing not just dubstep but other bass-heavy beats, BassHead has some exciting projects in the making over the next 12 months.
Mr. Brown (Soul in Motion / Junglist Movement / Prophecy Radio / Heavyweight Productions - Toronto, CA)
James is no stranger to Buffalo, having played OPM Lounge many times during it's legendary run earlier this decade. We invite him back now, because we miss his energy and big city vibe. He'll be opening for A-Sides from 12-1.
This man has been djing now for a total of 20 years and is a well respected member of the Toronto Drum n Bass community. Mr. Brown first got into djing by playing ska, dub, reggae, and house and did so for about 8 years until he made the transition to drum n bass; but this early music preference is still transmitted through his sets as his selection are tunes that are heavily influenced by these genres.
He has also put in time at two predominant Toronto record shops; first, at the infamous Eastern Bloc Records and then as the Manager/dnb buyer for 2theBeat. He crafted a local production company known as Soul in Motion. He and his crew regularly throw events to promote cutting edge producers as well as top locals their hometown has to offer.
Mr. Brown isn’t just local to Toronto as he has played in Montreal, the Prairies, British Columbia as well as many visits stateside. Also not to mention, he has been on bills alongside some serious worldwide recognized talent such as: Grooverider, Adam F, Brookes Brothers, LTJ Bukem, Goldie, Fabio, Aphrodite, Mickey Finn, Futurebound, and TC just to name a few.
As of late, aside from actively working on a series of side promotional projects, he has become a partner in the Junglist Movement camp and recently started Heavyweight Productions, not to mention is a co-host on The Prophecy, North Americas longest running radio show. Mr. Brown’s uptempo style and high energy behind the decks are pure crowd pleasers and he has no sign of stopping anytime soon.
Potent J btb CMC (Frostytone / ITF Radio / Midnightmassdnb.com - Buffalo) The king of dubs in Buffalo, "PJ" has been amassing an incredible collection of only the best dnb vinyl for the past few years. This night expect a more laid back set from he and fellow ITF Radio resident CMC to open the night from 9-10. CMC is half of the tag duo Midnightmass (with dj beta), and is among the better technical dnb djs you'll find in the region with many years of djing experience at his discretion.
Big Basha (Frostytone Ent. / MnM Presents - Buffalo) The man behind the curtain of frostytone Entertainment and original STS (South Towns Estates) member needs no intro in this town. We're hoping for a signiture upfront dubstep selection on this one. Basha will be playing an early set 10-11
Bones Jones (Allied / Jungle Bums - Rochester) A headliner himself in the making. Bones has been a pioneering artist our dnb/dubstep scene for years now. An established producer (check out his Empire State of Mind Remix) and already running Jungle Bums, Bones added Allied Productions to his plate in early 10'. Since then Allied has brought AK 1200 and Black Sun Empire to Rochester this year and he says they will keep going and are ready to make a big push. He will be playing from 11-12 with carte blanc to play whatever he chooses including dubstep leaning toward mostly drum and bass though for this one.
Loki (Intimefunk / ITF Radio - Buffalo) Like the god of mischief he is named after, you never quite know what to expect from your co-host for the evening. Playing from 3-4 after A-Sides, expect a set that pushes the night right to the edge of 4am with scratching and quick mixes spanning the whole spectrum of dnb subgenres while maintaining a dancefloor vibe.
VJ Deliria (Intimefunk / ITF Radio - Buffalo, Mexico City) **Ableton Live VJ set with A-Sides & Mr. Brown** Your other co-host for this night will also have original content projecting before and after her set. Deliria has become the go-to artist in the regional scene when it comes to adding slick, beatmatched video content to regional events. Having played along side some of the world scenes greatest talents and some of the grittiest local shows, she adds high end flare to any event. Expect high end results from this blossoming talent.
4 x 18 Bassbins by Tristan (Buffalo) Tristan has been behind many of the scene's biggest show providing finely tuned sub-bass for MnM Presents, Frostytone, Queen City Cartel, and more since 2008. He is a staple of your scene, and we are proud to have his sound for the show as well as additional mid and high range sound so the beats will be crystal. Tristan is the reason the party is named Soundsystem Sessions! For a little more context to the name of the party, check out our interview with A-Sides on ITF.com. He talked in great detail about the evolution of drum and bass music and it's connection to the soundsystem culture in the UK.
Special Guest Master of Ceremonies:
SMD the MC (2KDeep) Smoothest sounding voice in regional dnb circles for our taste and this show. Sean will be taking a more laid back approach at our request to keep the airwaves open for the beats. But he still has the green light to take the reigns if the moment presents itself.
